Obama infamously goes chalk because he wants to maximize his odds of making a lot of correct picks. That makes sense for him, because — for all the White House pickup games he played — he has an image of basketball-knowing to uphold. But Biden has no such burden to carry, and that pick makes it clear that loyalty matters more than bracket accuracy (which is also on-brand).

The No. 15 seed Delaware Blue Hens are underway against No. 2 seed Villanova in the men’s bracket. In a departure from former President Barack Obama’s bracket strategy, President Biden has picked the Blue Hens to win it all on the men’s side and in the women’s bracket, where they are a No. 13 seed.
