What Went Down In The First Round Of The NCAA Tournament
One down, one to go for the Canes. USC next this afternoon.
Greensboro has been good for Miami. The No. 8 seed Hurricanes wrapped up a convincing win over No. 9 seed USF in the first game of the day in the women’s bracket — on the heels of an impressive run in the ACC Tournament two weeks ago.
I love looking up some of these low seeds’ KenPom profiles to see what weird mix of stats they have — the Gamecocks allowed the country’s third-highest free throw percentage (a stat that is mostly bad luck) on defense, but still gave up a much lower share of points from free throws than the average team because they were one of the lowest-frequency fouling teams in the country.
