One thing that is pretty extraordinary about the caucuses — the number of people from out of state who are here, despite the fact that they can’t participate. Earlier this evening I talked to a Sanders whip (someone who runs around trying to marshal support from other caucusgoers) who drove out to Iowa from New York earlier this week. I also talked to some people I would lovingly call “caucus tourists” at a Steyer event yesterday. They pointed out that this is their chance to see candidates in the flesh. Surprisingly, those voters said that having seen the candidates actually made them trust Iowans’ choice more, because they’ve had the chance to evaluate their options in person.
