This long, long evening is about to come to a close at the caucus site I’m at — the part that most people in this room care about, anyway. Two and a half hours after the caucus started, the results of the second alignment are starting to come in. I thought I understood the accessibility concerns around the Iowa caucuses before, but now I really understand why turnout for these events is so low. It would be incredibly hard to attend a caucus with children, or as an elderly person, or even if you’re pregnant. Plus, people whose English isn’t great would be completely out of luck.
