What Did — And Didn’t — Go Down In The Iowa Caucuses
Sixty-five percent of caucusgoers say they’ve caucused before, according to preliminary entrance polls. That’s higher than in previous years — that number was 56 percent in 2016 and 43 percent in 2008.
That’s right, Nate! Even though John Kerry won in 2004, he actually failed to reach viability in about 10 percent of precincts.
It’s now the all-important part of any political event — fundraising! Volunteers are passing around boxes for financial contributions. The precinct chair encourages caucusgoers to give $46, “since tonight is all about electing the 46th president of the United States.”
