Georgia’s 2nd District is a race that Republicans are really hoping to put on the map, but Republican strategists I talked to in D.C. were assuming that Jeremy Hunt, a Black former Army captain who graduated West Point in 2015, would be their nominee. They like that matchup against the older Sanford Bishop, who hasn’t had a competitive race in some time. So, if Chris West wins, that might scramble their plans. But that race looks like it’s going to a runoff, so it’s not time for them to hit the panic button yet.
