Decision Desk HQ projects that Ken Paxton will win Texas’s Republican primary for attorney general. Of course, ABC News has not projected who won the race yet, but this news shouldn’t be too surprising, given that polls ahead of tonight’s race gave Paxton an edge and Bush had several obstacles to overcome in order to win tonight (including the fact that Paxton had Trump’s backing). A Democrat hasn’t won a statewide race in Texas since the ‘90s, so Paxton should be in good shape to win his reelection bid this fall. That said, Texas Democrats do view the attorney general seat as the most flippable statewide seat and are likely to make a serious play for it come November. Should Paxton go on to win, he’ll face either Rochelle Garza or Joe Jaworski this fall.
