Politico made this point in one of their earlier newsletters, but a defeat for Trump in the Kemp-Purdue race would be the third time this year that a Trump-based gubernatorial candidate lost their primary election (Nebraska and Idaho were the first two instances).

But even if Kemp wins his primary tonight — as polls suggest is likely — I don’t think that’s necessarily good news for the anti-Trump wing of the GOP. That’s because, at least in several of Georgia’s races, the non-Trump backed incumbent is still embracing Trumpian politics! The fact that people like Kemp are still touting Trump’s agenda shows that the former president’s grip on the party might not waver even if he loses a few more elections.
