What Happened This Week In Washington — And Georgia
According to livestreams, both from protesters and news organizations, there is a sizable crowd pressed up right against the Capitol building, up the stairs and on the balcony, demanding entry, while others are scattered farther back.
The U.S. Senate just went into recess, possibly because of the risk of protesters storming the building. Not entirely clear what’s going on.
I’m keeping one eye on Georgia while the other is trained on what’s going on in Washington. The Associated Press has called the Georgia Public Service Commission race for Republicans; the Democrat in that race was underperforming Warnock and Ossoff, and there just aren’t enough votes left for him to pull ahead. Though not as important as the Senate races, the Georgia Public Service Commission does play an important role in regulating the state’s utilities (deciding when companies can shut off power to consumers, for instance) and Georgia’s move (or lack thereof) toward renewable energy sources.
