Back in Georgia, Chatham County (Savannah) has announced it has about 5,500 ballots left to count, and it anticipates doing so by the end of the business day.

This may be true, Nate, but will his colleagues actually listen to him? 2024 hopefuls saw what happened to former House Speaker Paul Ryan (the one person all Republicans could get behind in 2015) when he placed himself on the wrong side the Trumpist divide in the party. I don’t know if they will be deterred by McConnell telling them off either.

Let’s keep in mind that McConnell still has a pretty nice station in life. He’s still going to be the Senate minority leader. He’s got a 6-3 conservative majority in the Supreme Court. He’s got plenty of money. In some ways, he probably doesn’t mind having Trump out of his hair. He’s got a good chance to win the Senate back in 2022 or 2024. So while he’s bucking Trump, it’s not like he’s necessarily behaving entirely against self-interest here.
