What Happened This Week In Washington — And Georgia
Trump, famous for his nicknames, refers to the GOP as the “weak Republicans.” This is perhaps the opening salvo in his post-presidency war with/within the party.
It is. Julia, Perry and I touched on Trump’s refusal to concede in light of the Senate vote to confirm the Electoral College vote later today earlier this week, talking a lot about how this administration norm-breaking behavior has thrown out the rule book, which makes it so difficult to not only cover it, but also to have legitimate opposition. On that note, I want to share something Julia said in that chat, as I think it hits on a lot of what we’re hearing now from Trump:
The impact of this norm-breaking administration isn’t just that it violates these unwritten rules, but that it behaves in ways that make the whole system of usual practices not work. That makes things extra challenging for Democrats.
As Meena just said, it is absolutely surreal to be watching a sitting president of the United States publicly plead with his vice president (and implicitly threaten him) to steal a presidential election.
