Sanders briefly mentioned the allegations that Trump is violating the two little-known clauses of the Constitution that prohibit federal officials from accepting titles, gifts or “emoluments” from foreign countries. It’s an untested area of constitutional law, but as I wrote earlier this year, these cases could force Trump to reveal a significant amount of information about his businesses, depending on how far they make it in the legal process.
According to a late September CBS/YouGov poll, 58 percent of Americans — including 34 percent of Democrats and 81 percent of Republicans — believe that Congress will be “too distracted” by the impeachment hearings and will be “unable to work on other legislation and issues.” Forty-two percent of Americans believe Congress will be able to work on other legislation and issues concerning the country while impeachment hearings are underway.
