What Went Down On Night Two Of The First Democratic Debates
Everyone is so convinced that it is bad politics, Sarah (embracing getting rid of private insurance), that I’m tempted to say maybe it’s not, even though that’s my instinct too. Just because the conventional wisdom is so often wrong.
I happen to think that Pete’s “Medicare for everyone who wants it” will be cast as socialism, as will Medicare-for-all and that this is a bit overrated as a general election issue.
Sarah, I think it’s somewhat dangerous because when it comes to health care, people are quite risk averse. They may not love private insurance companies, but this is the system they’re used to — and the idea of the health care system changing dramatically (or being unstable) is something they’re understandably uncomfortable with.
