What Went Down On Night Two Of The First Democratic Debates
Seems like Biden thought his “I’m still holding on to that torch!” line would go over better than it did.
Swalwell refers cleverly to Biden being of a different generation by saying that he was six years old when he heard Biden say that the Democratic Party needed to “pass the torch to the next generation.”
One thing to watch for tonight is age: polls to date have made it clear that all else equal, Democratic voters prefer a candidate who is younger than 70. And with a wide age range on display tonight — at 76, Joe Biden is more than twice as old as 37-year-old Pete Buttigieg — I think age gaps are an important subtext to the debate. So, apparently, does Rep. Swalwell.
