I wonder if the fact that many of these topics are so partisan -- in our latest poll with Ipsos, the people naming climate change, racial inequality and economic inequality as the most important topic facing the country are almost all Biden supporters, while the people naming crime, abortion or immigration are almost all Trump supporters -- means that the candidates don't feel like they need to have good or convincing answers on any topics "owned" by the other side. Of course, those are just respondents' top issues -- people can and do care about more than one thing.
