According to a Gallup poll from June and July, 61 percent of Americans say that new civil rights laws are needed to reduce discrimination against Black people, compared with 39 percent who say that new laws are not needed. This is the largest share of Americans who have said new civil rights laws are needed since Gallup began asking this question in 1993. A record high proportion of Black Americans (82 percent) say that new civil rights laws are needed, and 53 percent of white Americans agree, also a record high.
