What Went Down In The Fifth Democratic Debate
Klobuchar is really trying to position herself as the practical option here. She says she’d love to mandate more leave but she wants to be honest about the costs. Harris, by contrast, has proposed six months of paid family leave, justifying it with an answer about the various care burdens on working women and how we need to be doing more to support those women. Both answers said a lot about how they’re trying to position themselves as candidates.
Perry, I think it’s because they saw that the best path for Buttigieg to gain ground with moderates was to attack Warren and Sanders.
So it feels like the other more moderate candidates (Booker, Klobuchar) are still attacking Warren and Sanders. This is kind of odd, because Pete is surging in the early states and Biden leads nationally. Why not attack those two? But I wonder if the moderate candidates have decided that voters might see Pete as too young and Biden as too old and might be looking for the same moderate message but from a person between ages 40 and 70.
