What Went Down In The Fifth Democratic Debate
I take issue with the framing of the question about Trump using Twitter for “unfiltered communication.” Twitter is a way of setting the agenda of mainstream media much more than it is a way to directly bring the president into contact with voters.
That was a hard question for Klobuchar — she couldn’t really attack Buttigieg, but wanted to emphasize that the bar is higher for women. I think she threaded the needle well.
I think that was pretty effective by Klobuchar, who hit several fairly good talking points (first woman president! experience!) and drew a lot of implicit but obvious-enough contrasts without having to twist the knife into Buttigieg.
