When choosing among labels such as “liberal Democrat” and “conservative Democrat,” many 2020 Democrats called themselves an “Obama Democrat.” That large constituency helped Biden win.

That Politico article mentions the story about David Plouffe warning Biden that if he ran in 2016, he might end his career with an embarrassing third-place finish in Iowa. Funny story: In 2020, Biden finished fourth, and yet he’s the nominee.
