Well, Micah, part of it is that there isn’t a lot of evidence that simply having a woman on the ballot motivates women to vote for that candidate. Trump’s presidency has mobilized a lot of women who maybe just weren’t that excited about Clinton four years ago.

I wish I knew, Micah, especially since I made my class that year write their midterms about why gender consciousness was likely to be an unusually powerful force in the 2016 election.

Michael, so why was gender a more dormant identity in 2016? (At least for women?)
