The phrase “Green New Deal” was not used, but the linking of public-sector union jobs with climate change and its effect on Black communities in particular is the kind of thinking that the authors of the Green New Deal were pursuing. Biden has moved towards a Green New Deal-style climate plan after the primaries, though he hasn’t really used that phrase.

Note: Environmentalism in the U.S. used to be a fairly bipartisan issue. The EPA, founded in 1970, was actually a product of the Nixon administration. But somewhere around 1990, everything changed.
