You might remember John Kasich from such presidential campaigns as the 2000 and 2016 Republican primaries. He made his name as the biggest anti-Trump voice among many on the GOP side in 2015-16.

I’ve seen some complaints that Republicans (like Kasich) are getting more speaking time than progressive leaders (like Ocasio Cortez). The convention we’re seeing is the public face of the party. They’re making a presentation to voters for the fall, so reaching out to moderates and Republicans who are uncomfortable with Trump is a typical and smart move. And unlike the Republicans on the stage tonight, progressives had a strong hand in drawing up the party’s platform and would likely make up a substantial portion of a Biden White House.
