What Went Down On The First Night Of The Democratic National Convention

Fun fact! The state motto of Michigan (partially visible on the flag behind Whitmer) is “Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam circumspice” — or, “If you’re looking for a nice peninsula, look around you.”

I keep hearing that idea, Nate. No idea. It seems like if the Democrats come close to winning Texas or Georgia, we may be looking at a much warmer convention in 2024. (It is currently 71 degrees in Milwaukee.)

Here’s Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who won her first term in 2018, 53 percent to 44 percent. She also got good reviews for her handling of the coronavirus pandemic — so much so that she was famously on Biden’s VP shortlist.
