Here’s Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who won her first term in 2018, 53 percent to 44 percent. She also got good reviews for her handling of the coronavirus pandemic — so much so that she was famously on Biden’s VP shortlist.

If your pitch is that the incumbent isn’t serving the nation very well (which is generally the pitch when you’re the challenger), you could do worse than pointing out that you’re having a virtual convention because of a pandemic.
