According to a December Morning Consult/Politico poll, 38 percent of Democrats think it is neither easier nor harder for women to win elections in the U.S. than it was five years ago. Thirty-three percent of Democrats — including 45 percent of men and 25 percent of women — think it has gotten easier for women to win elections, and 22 percent of Democrats — including 27 percent of women and 13 percent of men — think it has gotten harder.

In Obama’s defense, I think we can assume his comments about white old men needing to get out of the way aren’t really about Biden or Sanders!

For what it’s worth, I found Obama’s comment morally off. He said: “Now women, I just want you to know; you are not perfect, but what I can say pretty indisputably is that you’re better than us [men].” I … don’t know if I believe that! And I think you could make the argument that it’s a bit condescending. It sort of feels like it falls into the category of male politicians saying the person they admire most is their wife, but then their wife has no power. This is probably not a topic for a live blog but human beings have the same capacities for good, evil and mediocrity, regardless of gender. Anyhoo … back to politics.
