What Went Down At The Nevada Democratic Debate
An aside, but Sanders’s mention of visiting a Nevada hospital reminds me of this great, and also dire, lede from a 2011 Las Vegas Sun piece that was a Pulitzer finalist. “There’s a running joke about hospitals here: ‘Where do you go for great health care in Las Vegas?’ ‘The airport.’”
Buttigieg seems to have made the decision that his best bet is to attack Sanders tonight (although he also got in his shot at Bloomberg). This makes sense, I guess, given that the second Buttigieg bump came when he attacked Warren for being too far left in one of the fall debates. He can win over Klobuchar and Bloomberg voters by standing out in other ways, not necessarily tearing them down.
I hate the framing of questions about policing/prosecutors/criminal justice that starts with the premise “how will black people respond.” It assumes that nonblack people would not care about these issues and that black people are particularly concerned about them. I’m not sure either is totally true. I think the focus on stop and frisk will hurt Bloomberg with nonblack voters as much as black ones.
