What Went Down On Day Three Of The Democratic Convention
Donald Trump just wrapped up an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit, a site famous for controversy and this digital interview series. Tonight’s DNC headliner, President Obama, did an open AMA in 2012 — taking questions from all comers (though not answering all, of course) while Trump’s were vetted to block protesters. The site had 15.7 million unique visitors last month.
When asked about health care, the Republican nominee wrote: “One of the first things I will do is to repeal and replace disastrous Obamacare. I will put forward an amazing new plan, which will include many reforms, such as letting people buy insurance across state lines, increasing choice and competition, and bargaining for better, cheaper drug prices.” The price of health care plans that are part of Affordable Care Act exchanges is rising in many states, according to an analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation. But earlier this month, the Center for Health and Economy released an analysis of the Trump health care proposal that said it would result in 18 million more uninsured people.
Getting rowdier here. Heard a few chants of “lock him up” — just a few — presumably in reference to Trump, as Admiral Hutson was speaking. Now a Bernie-related disturbance of some kind from the California delegation — couldn’t make out what they were saying.
It’s a smart strategy by retired Rear Admiral John Hutson to criticize Trump’s ability to serve as commander in chief, addressing the candidate directly: “You’re not fit to polish John McCain’s boots. Though voters think Clinton is more fit to be commander in chief than Trump is, as Harry pointed out last week, Trump leads Clinton among military personnel — which suggests that he likely leads her among households for whom supporting the military is an important campaign issue. He also leads Clinton among veterans, though by a smaller margin than Mitt Romney led Barack Obama in 2012.
