Earlier we were talking about the dearth of Democrats in South Dakota (the party office closed down in the state in 2019) and how Democrats in Iowa are unlikely to unseat Grassley in the Senate come November. These situations raise an interesting proposition: If you’re a Democrat in those states, should you vote Republican, as your vote could wield more power?
There were reports coming out of Georgia last month that some Democrats voted in the Republican primary so they could have a say in the type of Republican candidate who advanced, which many saw as an opportunity to hedge their bets against a Republican win in November. Although as the Washington Post’s Lenny Bronner and Phillip Bump wrote, this wasn’t ultimately enough for Kemp or even Raffensperger to win. That said … is there political sense to this strategy?
