The Race To Watch In Montana
Thanks to the census reapportionment process, Montana picked up a seat, meaning it has two House elections for the first time since 1990. The open 1st District is the main race to watch, too, in Big Sky Country.
This red-leaning seat could be competitive in some years, but this year, the Republican nominee will almost certainly be favored given the GOP-leaning national environment. It looks like former Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke, who held the state’s current at-large seat for a little over one term, is favored to win the Republican nomination, too. Although he does face some primary opposition from former state legislator Al Olszewski and businesswoman and pastor Mary Todd. Democrats, meanwhile, are picking between public health expert Cora Neumann and attorney Monica Tranel, with Neumann holding a sizable fundraising edge coming into the final weeks of the race.
