Yes, to Nate’s point, if a GOP senator who’s on the line about their vote is thinking about this as a job interview, this Kavanaugh statement might strike them as off putting and intemperate. And the idea of blanket denials that he’s never been blackout drunk ever in his life–well, that might strike some senators as something he could well be lying about, given the testimony of people who knew him well and talked about his drinking. And that would come as a demerit point as far as character goes: this guy might be lying and comfortable with lying on a national stage.
