What Happened In The Brett Kavanaugh Hearing

I’m sitting here listening to CSPAN taking calls on separate Democratic and Republican call-in lines. I’m struck by the constant partisan refrains of “you can just tell she’s lying” and “you can just tell she’s telling the truth.”

To me, Micah, my takeaway so far is this: I don’t think we learned anything we didn’t already know but her appearance today in front of the committee definitely humanizes her and it’s hard not to admire her bravery here. I don’t see how Republicans can continue to push him through to a vote without ultimately angering a lot of women across America.

The most powerful and sickening and emblematic moment for me, Micah, was Ford bringing her own expertise to bear: “Indelible in the hippocampus is the laughter. The uproarious laughter between the two, and their having fun at my expense,” she said of Kavanaugh and Judge. “They were laughing with each other … I was underneath one of them while the two laughed. Two friends having a really good time with one another”
