Kansas Upheld Abortion Rights And Other Key Updates From The Aug. 2 Elections

Regarding the Squad, it’s hard to beat an incumbent, and these are super safe Democratic seats for the most part, so you have to hone the right message to win over a bunch of left-leaning voters. Rep. Jamaal Bowman does have a couple serious challengers in New York’s 16th District, although the fact that he has two might just help him if his opposition is split. What’s interesting in that seat is that its share of voting-age population that is Black (like Bowman) was reduced quite a bit in redistricting (from 30 percent to 21 percent) and is now notably whiter (went from 34 percent to 42 percent). His opponents are mostly running to his right, too, by criticizing him for things like voting against the bipartisan infrastructure bill (now law).
