I’m inclined to say that this is only one type of criticism levied against the former president (just look at the other 9 House Republicans who voted in favor of impeachment). I will say, though, that Trump seems to reserve a special brand of fury for those who come for him and are the scions of the leading GOP families, as Leonhardt writes. It’s almost like his way of saying, “The Republican Party of their day is over, and now it’s my turn to rule.” Or, at the very least, Trump’s sending a very clear sign to these folks that the modern GOP is shredding its traditionalist past and the Cheneys, Bushes, Romneys and Murkowskis of the world need to get in line.
