As Leonhardt wrote about Trump’s Republican critics with family histories in the Republican Party, they have a multigenerational sense of politics and their role in it. More than that, too, it’s easy to imagine that they see their power and influence in the party and outside of it as older, bigger and longer-lasting than Trumps — or so they hope.
