In Virginia’s 7th District GOP primary, it’s fascinating to see how far Reeves seems to have fallen. He won a state senate seat by a hair in 2011, easily won reelection in 2015, but then mounted a campaign for lieutenant governor in 2017 that saw a really ugly GOP primary. He narrowly lost that primary but won reelection in his state senate seat in 2019, and I figured he’d be a formidable candidate for this seat, which overlaps with a good chunk of his state senate district. But he barely outraised his primary opponents and now he’s actually running in third so far tonight!
