What We’re Watching In Georgia Tonight

Three of the May 24 primaries in Georgia that we were watching closely have gone to extra innings and will be decided today. They are:

  • The Republican primary for the 2nd District. National Republicans are high on Army veteran Jeremy Hunt’s potential ability to beat Democratic Rep. Sanford Bishop here in November, but Hunt was forced into a runoff with attorney Chris West. West has attacked Hunt for just recently moving to the district, but Hunt is probably still the favorite here.
  • The Republican primary for the 6th District. Trump has endorsed Jake Evans, the son of one of his former ambassadors, but Evans placed second to physician Rich McCormick in May, 43 percent to 23 percent. McCormick is supported by the anti-government-spending group the Club for Growth, and if he wins, it’ll be the first time the Club beats Trump in a primary this cycle.
  • The Republican primary for the 10th District. Trucking company owner Mike Collins finished narrowly ahead of former state Rep. Vernon Jones in May, 26 percent to 22 percent. The runoff, though, has been very negative, with Collins attacking Jones for being a former Democrat, an alleged rapist and a “radically anti-white racist.” (Jones is Black.) Trump has endorsed Jones, but Gov. Brian Kemp is in Collins’s corner.
