A Democrat and former Aspen city councilman with plans to work across the aisle is giving Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert a surprisingly hard fight in the Republican-leaning 3rd District. Boebert went into this election with a 97-in-100 chance of winning, according to our Deluxe forecast. But she also has an outsized reputation as a political character performing what her challenger, Adam Frisch, refers to as “angertainment” on the national stage. Frisch’s pitch to voters has largely been centered on the idea that Boebert has spent more time being famous for outrageous stunts and attacks on her political enemies than she has on governing in their best interests.

With 91 percent of the vote counted, Frisch now stands in the lead — by 2,354 votes. There was a lot left to count today, as reported by Pueblo Chieftain, a local newspaper. But the votes left were coming from all over the district, both heavily conservative areas and more mixed ones. Whether she wins or not, this tight race represents a real problem for Boebert’s relationship with her constituents.
