We’re still waiting for a handful of House races in New York that both parties have been trying hard to win. One race I’m watching in particular is the 17th District, where 57 percent of the expected vote is in and Republican Michael Lawler is leading incumbent Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney 55 percent to 45 percent. Maloney, who is also the chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, currently represents New York’s 18th but decided to run in the 17th after redistricting and successfully fended off a challenge from the left. The district was redrawn to give an edge to Democrats, so even if Maloney isn’t technically the incumbent, he has an advantage. And he’s also significantly outraised Lawler, who is a state legislator. So a Democratic loss would be pretty dramatic.
