I’m actually not that surprised that the Kentucky and Michigan abortion ballot measures look so similar, Jacob. Yes, Kentucky is a much more conservative state than Michigan, but the Kentucky amendment is just about whether abortion is explicitly NOT part of the state constitution — it won’t actually change anything about the status quo, so it’s easier to make an argument that will appeal even to some anti-abortion voters. Michigan, meanwhile, is voting on whether to affirmatively add abortion rights to the state constitution, which is always going to be a more difficult sell, even in a more liberal state.
