How Election Week 2022 Went Down
If this proves a GOP-leaning night, there’s one thing that might cap their Senate gains: This Senate class was previously elected in 2016 and, before that, in 2010. Neither was a great year for Democrats, and so a number of the seats that might otherwise be competitive — I’m thinking of Wisconsin or North Carolina, or maybe Iowa, Ohio or Indiana — are already in GOP hands.
Republicans have courted voters of color without college degrees this election cycle. Galen and Monica discussed how the education divide could affect the election results this year.
And just for context — extending polling hours when there are issues, delays or just very long lines is also a fairly common practice during elections. One example: Durham County, North Carolina, was allowed to keep voting centers in some precincts open for 20 to 60 minutes in 2016 after computer glitches caused delays.
