On one hand, it’s a big deal that Republicans have flipped the House; Democrats will no longer have full control over the federal government, so Biden’s agenda will face some serious roadblocks over the next two years. But on the other, Republicans look like they will have a historically small majority: 221-214, if current results hold. That eight-seat gain would be far short of how the opposition party usually does in midterm elections. And Republicans lost some races that they really ought to have won, according to our forecast.
