Looking over the results of some key ballot measures from last week, I see that Measure 114 in Oregon has passed. That’s potentially a big deal, as it will be one of the toughest gun-control laws in the nation: It bans manufacturing, selling or using magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds, and it requires people to provide fingerprints, photo ID, safety training and a criminal background check, and to obtain a permit from local law enforcement before they can buy a gun. Even in a blue state like Oregon, though, the measure was quite controversial: It passed only 51 percent to 49 percent.
