What Went Down During The 2021 Elections
In the race for Boston mayor, Michelle Wu leads Annissa Essaibi George 64 percent to 36 percent with 77 percent of precincts reporting, and Essaibi George has just conceded the race. Wu becomes the first ever woman or person of color to be elected mayor of Boston, and probably the most progressive mayor the city has ever had, too.
With Virginia coming more into focus, eyes are turning to New Jersey, where the governor’s race looks close with 40 percent of the expected vote in. I’m tempted to say that it’s closer than expected, but the thing is that the polls were pretty varied in the final week or so. Two highly rate pollsters showed a 4-point race, while others showed a 9 to 11-point race. Biden won New Jersey by 16 points last year, so even if Murphy keeps his job, a low single-digit win isn’t a great showing.
