What Went Down During The 2021 Elections
Democrat Shontel Brown beat Republican challenger Laverne Jones Gore in the Tuesday special election for Ohio’s 11th Congressional District. The seat was vacated earlier this year by former Rep. Marcia Fudge, who now serves as Biden’s Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. The race was Brown’s to lose, of course, and it wasn’t a particularly competitive election. But her win at least gives House Speaker Nancy Pelosi another vote in the House.
The race in Ohio’s 11th District is one of two special elections taking place in the state tonight. In Ohio’s 15th District, Democrat Allison Russo faces off against Republican Mike Carey for control of the seat vacated by former Rep. Steve Stivers, who resigned earlier this year to lead the Ohio Chamber of Commerce.
It’s still early in Virginia House of Delegates races, but Democrats’ majority appears to be in danger. Republicans currently lead in 14 Democratic-held districts; they only need to flip six in order to take control.
It depends on how much the exit polls cheat by pegging results to pre-election poll averages, which they’ve never been entirely transparent about.
