I wrote a few weeks ago at the Mischiefs of Faction blog that one of the most notable features of the past four years is that the usual political forces are still in effect, especially the power of partisanship. This is especially striking with regard to the record turnout that Clare mentioned. Record turnout, and yet (from what we know so far) a pretty familiar map.
