That’s right, Nathaniel. In the Texas 23rd, a majority Hispanic district, Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones is challenging incumbent, Rep. Will Hurd. Ortiz Jones, an openly gay, Air Force veteran, won a Democratic primary run-off race with 67 percent of the vote, and could pull off an upset — it’s a race I am watching closely.
Propublica shows that both candidates raised a lot of money — $5.4 million for Ortiz Jones, and $4.7 million for Will Hurd. The Deluxe version of our forecast gives Jones just a 1 in 5 chance at winning her race. Right now, with 24 percent of the votes counted, they are neck and neck tied at 49 percent each.
